Former RHS Swim Team Member Works with NASA

Navy Diver 1st Class Matthew DeMyers, a former member of the Redan High School Swim team, was on the Lead Recovery Team of Orion Space Capsule that splashed down in the Pacific Ocean. 

A combined US Navy and NASA team recovered Orion on December 5th safely onto the USS Anchorage.  This was the first-at-sea testing of the Orion Crew Module using a Navy well deck recovery method.  The successful retrieval of Exploration Flight Test 1 (EFT-1)  was part of a US government inter-agency effort to test recovery techniques for future space flights. 

‘Orion is meant to be reused, which is why we tailored this recovery to accommodate keeping the capsule safe,’ said Navy Diver 1st Class Matthew Demyers of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11.

We are certainly proud of Matthew Demyers for his great contributions to this nation and we wish him continued success in his endeavors.
